Gert Wilden, born into a talented musical family of Bohemian origins, studied composition,
piano and conducting at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, picking up jazz informally along the way.
His fascination with the cultural sources of black music led him on extensive journeys of discovery in Brazil and Africa.
As a performing musician, he worked for many years with numerous famous artists in the international
jazz and rock scene, including Billy Cobham, John Lord, Brian Auger, Hermeto Pascoal, Klaus Doldinger, and others.
After a more contemplative period during which he focused his attention on the conceptual aspects of
contemporary classical music, he eventually turned to film music, starting with collaboration on a number of
prime-time TV movies and series.
He later went on to compose his first original soundtracks, including the music for the highly acclaimed
"Taxi Lisboa" by Wolf Gaudlitz, which is one of the few film projects to have been acquired by the New York
Museum of Modern Art, and for Florian Gallenberger's Oscar-winning short film "Quiero Ser", among others.
Gert Wilden is meanwhile recognised as one of the best German composers of film scores, and is especially
solicited for projects of a more creative nature.
